BetPlay: “We have about 50% of the betting market in Colombia, but we want to reach 60%”

The general manager of Colombian operator Corredor Empresarial, Germán Segura, announced that his sports betting and online casino brand, BetPlay, has 50% of the betting market in his country, and said that they are looking to reach 60% and strengthen themselves technologically.

“At a commercial level, we have close to 50% of the betting market, but we want to reach 60% and continue strengthening ourselves technologically as we have done thus far,” he said in an interview with the Colombian media La República.

Segura also explained that at present 4 million accounts have been created on the company’s platform and that “around 50% of them are active.” Moreover, the growth of sales or bets “is at least 70% compared to the previous year,” he added.

The executive also highlighted that BetPlay is celebrating five years of operations this month and recalled that they were “the second operator legally approved by Coljuegos -the Colombian gaming regulator- among the 17 that exist today in the market.”

“The company’s headquarters are in Bogota. We employ around 230 people in Corredor Empresarial and we have around 40,000 points of top-up and withdrawal between Su Red and Super Giros, which are located throughout all the regions of the country,” he said about the operator’s work in Colombia.

BetPlay added soccer player Radamel Falcao as its new brand ambassador.

In addition, Segura stated that according to Coljuegos, “the games operated through the internet have had an interesting growth in the last years.” For reference, in 2020 they closed with almost 8 billion Colombian pesos ($ 1,761 million) in revenues, and in 2021 with 16 billion pesos ($ 3,523 million), he said.

Some estimate that 2022’s revenue will reach 20 billion pesos ($ 4,404 million), driven by the FIFA World Cup that will take place between November and December this year, without the Colombian National Soccer Team,” he added.

Segura also highlighted the work of Corredor Empresarial regarding the prevention of Problem Gambling and Social Responsibility. “We control that there are no minors, we have campaigns with clear messages on the subject, and we have a psychologist online for people who need it,” he noted.

“We are also committed to sports. At the beginning of the year, with the support of the Ministry of Sports, we supported five schools with educational, clothing, and sports opportunities. […] We want to continue strengthening the brand as that option that serves not only to bet but also to join the sport,” the executive concluded.

In mid-September, BetPlay announced the addition of Colombian soccer player Radamel Falcao García as the company’s new brand image. Additionally, the company stated that they contributed $16.4 million for exploitation rights so far in 2022.
