Marathonbet, an online sports betting firm with roots in Russia, announced today a decision to cease operations in the UK following the ongoing events in Europe.

All Other Operations Remain In Tact

Marathonbet is suspending services on its UK-facing website only and will maintain operations on its other European websites licensed by the authorities in Italy, Spain and Denmark, as well as its marathon.com website licensed in Curacao.

“As the Marathonbet brand is operated globally, recent and ongoing events in Europe have had a significant impact for us. We regret to inform that we have taken the decision to temporarily suspend services offered on the marathonbet.co.uk website.”

The sports betting operator sent an email to its UK customers, informing them that they would not be able to place bets or make deposits after April 14, while new account registrations have already been stopped.

Existing Marathonbet customers with active bets will have their bets due to be settled by May 24 honored, but any bets after this date will be voided. Customers will also have access to their accounts to withdraw their outstanding balances, Marathonbet stated, hinting that additional documents may be required to process withdrawals.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your loyal custom and for supporting Marathonbet.co.uk. If these circumstances change, we will not hesitate to contact you.”

Marathonbet

Founded in 1997, Marathonbet launched operations in the UK in 2015 and was headquartered in the city of Brighton and Hove located on the south coast of England.

The CIS sports betting operator featured prominently as a sponsor in British racing, providing financial support for races and events among which several high-profile, including the November Handicap at Doncaster and the three-day festival of racing in Brighton.

In 2019, a sponsorship deal with Manchester City of the English Premier League that provided brand awareness for the sportsbook brand having its logo featuring on the players’ training tops, was touted as a record-breaking gambling sponsorship in the UK.

In Russia, Marathonbet was one of the few licensed by the national communications agency Roskomnadzor and allowed to operate online sports betting.
