Mattsson and Chamas Denied Sunday Victories at GGPoker

Simon Mattsson and Rayan “Beriuzy” Chamas narrowly missed out on glory at GGPoker this weekend, with both falling at the final hurdles in their respective tournaments. Mattsson and Chamas may have finished in second place, but they still padded their GGPoker bankrolls with $71,022 and $89,225 respectively, which is not a bad result at the end of the day.

This weekend’s $1,050 Sunday High Rollers Main Event drew in 518 entrants, which meant the $400,000 guarantee was smashed by $118,000. The chunky prize pool meant all but one of the nine finalists walked away with five-figure hauls.

Mexico-based Lithuanian star Gediminas Uselis crashed out in ninth for $9,471 before Eduardo “srjtdyfgukh” Silva busted in eighth, a finish worth $12,629. Simon Lofberg saw his tournament end in seventh place for $16,842. Lofberg would later go on to win the $840 Omaholic Hundred Stack HR for $22,078

The final six became five with the untimely demise of Boris Kolev ($22,459). The eliminations of “Memukul” ($29,950) and “felipecv” ($39,939) left only three players in the hunt for the title, and what a trio they were.

New Zealander Joshua McCully bowed out in third for $53,259, leaving Mattsson, the reigning WSOP Online Main Event champion, heads-up against “o moises” of Brazil. The Brazilian defeated Mattsson in the one-on-one clash, leaving Mattsson to collect $71,022, and the champion to bank an impressive $94,710.

Briski Binks the GGMasters High Rollers Event

The $1,050 GGMasters High Rollers event was another that obliterated its guarantee, with 838 players creating an $838,000 pot, much larger than the advertised $750,000 guarantee. Eight of the finalists turned their $1,050 investments into five figures, with the champion scooping a six-figure score.

Hong Kong’s “fpdhd” was the first casualty of the final table; their ninth-place exit came with $12,889. Christoph “EBERHARTER” Erbler ($17,004), “caroso” ($22,415), and “Root Beer” ($29,549) joined the list of busted players before Vincent “PANDA_DRAGON” Lam fell by the wayside in fifth for $38,951.

Latvia’s Pavels Spirins‘ tournament ended abruptly in fourth for $51,347, with “schlafenderMann” of Uzbekistan seeing their deep run end in a third-place finish weighing in at $67,686.

Chamas and Istvan “Wohooooooooo” Briski met heads-up for the title and the lion’s share of the prize pool. The one-on-one battle went Briski’s way, meaning his $1,050 buy-in was now worth a cool $117,618. Runner-up Chamas collected $89,225 for his bridesmaid finish.
