Online poker in the US is alive and well at Americas Cardroom where 49,016 entries each kicked in a mere $2.50 for a shot at a whopping prizepool of $110,286.

The microstakes event dubbed “The Dream” easily surpassed the $100,000 guarantee. The tournament was structured as a Progressive Knockout (PKO), reserving a chunk of the prize pool for players who KO’d their opponents.

Left standing after all the knockouts were accomplished was ‘CatchM3IfUKan,’ who took home $8,275 for winning the event and $1,447 more in player bounties. Not bad for a $2.50 entry fee, eh?

While nobody was able to catch ‘CatchM3IfUKan,’ plenty were able to hit pay dirt. The prize pool was stretched out to the top 1,170 finishers, all of them likely to sing the praises of ‘The Dream,’ an event that had plenty of non-believers prior to the first virtual hand being dealt.

Many thought that a meager $2.50 entry fee would never be enough to reach the $100K guarantee. But ‘The Dream’ had 22 starting flights, giving players ample opportunities to get in on the action.

ACR Team Pro Chris Moneymaker, winner of the 2003 WSOP Main Event for $2 million after earning his entry via a satellite, expressed his support of the event, calling ‘The Dream’ “big poker at basement buy-ins.”

Moneymaker added, “My own experiences demonstrate the life-changing opportunities poker can provide, but rarely have those opportunities been available at such a low buy-in as they are with ‘The Dream.’”

With the first ‘The Dream’ event a smashing success, you can bet your bottom dollar that Americas Cardroom will run it again sometime in the future. Keep in mind that ACR is open to players worldwide.

First-time depositors can take advantage of a 100% bonus up to $2,000. After depositing, keep an eye open for the announcement of the next ‘The Dream’ tournament.
