Bahamas Bowl Betting Preview for Toledo Rockets Vs Middle Tennessee
A Closer Look
This will be the seventh annual Bahamas Bowl. The Toledo Rockets will be playing in their 19th bowl. Their all-time bowl record is 10-8, with their last bowl appearance being in 2018. As a matter of fact, their last appearance was in this same bowl, in which they suffered a 35-32 loss to Florida International University.
Middle Tennessee State will be appearing in their 13th bowl. Their last bowl appearance was also in 2018. They played in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl where they lost to Appalachian State by a score of 45-13.
Toledo, out of the Mid-American Conference, finished the year at 7-5, while Middle Tennessee State, a member of Conference USA, finished the season at 6-6. Toledo could have been a 10-win team. They lost four games by a combined nine points, including losses to Notre Dame, the MAC champion Northern Illinois, and Western Michigan. With just a few breaks, Toledo could have been in a much bigger bowl.
Middle Tennessee struggled through much of the season, going 3-6 through their first nine games. However, they went on a hot streak to end the season, winning their last three games by a combined score of 133-54. Even though Toledo has the better resume, the Blue Raiders come into this one with the most momentum.
Middle Tennessee State will need to have their run defense squared away, as Toledo has put up some huge numbers on the ground this season. Between junior running back Bryant Koback, and freshman quarterback Dequan Finn, the Rockets have a powerful running attack.
The Blue Raiders have shored up their rushing defense throughout the season. Middle Tennessee State hasn’t allowed a 100-yard rusher over the last seven games. This will match strength vs. strength, and may the better unit win.
If Toledo can’t run the ball, they have a passing attack as well. Finn is very capable of putting up huge passing numbers. The Rockets also lead the country in lack of turnovers, as they have only turned the ball over six times all season.
Betting Pick
On paper, Toledo is the better team. They’ve played a more competitive schedule, and they’ve taken some very tough teams to the brink. The oddsmakers think that they’re the better team as well, as the Rockets have been made a 10-point favorite.
We agree with the oddsmakers’ thoughts, and we think that Toledo will win this one. They’re just too talented, and they will overwhelm Middle Tennessee State. The Rockets will win this one big, 42-10, and will take home the Prime Minister’s Trophy. It will be a great trip to the Bahamas for the Toledo Rockets!
