New York Mobile Sports Betting Readies for Launch

As the NFL playoffs come upon us, expectations for the launch of New York mobile sports betting grow. After all, we were promised that the state would have the activity up and running in time for the Super Bowl, so time is of the essence!

Now, prominent New York Senator Joe Addabbo says that mobile sports bets in his state are “imminent”, and may even be available for some playoff games. Ushering in the era of betting on sports in the Empire State, with all the lofty expectations that brings.

If the Senator is correct (and not just blowing political smoke), that would mean New Yorkers could be placing bets within a week or two at most. However, it’s worth noting that the State Gaming Commission has yet to comment on Addabbo ‘s comments. Of course, they don’t have political motivations.

As you may remember, New York mobile sports betting will have the highest (and most ridiculous) taxes on sports betting of any state in the union. That said, many experts still predict the market to become the largest in the nation… in spite of the exorbitant 51% rate.

Part of the reason for the optimism is that many state residents were traveling to New Jersey, or other near-by destinations, in order to place sports bets. The hope is that those players will not elect to make those same bets from home, trading off the high tax rate for the convenience of not having to drive to another state.

Senator Addabbo went as far as to ask residents who had been betting elsewhere to switch over to New York mobile sports betting providers now that the state has a product which is comparable to those in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and offshore bookies.
