Philip Hollederer topped the field in the WPT Prime Amsterdam main event on Mar. 31 at Holland Casino in the Netherlands. He won the top prize of $186,178 in prize money along with the WPT Prime trophy. He also received a prize package to play in the season-ending WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas in December. The German player now holds $225,892 in career earnings, and this was his first tournament victory.
The €1,100 buy-in no-limit hold’em tournament had a prize pool worth $895,882 thanks to three starting flights that attracted a total of 1,000 entries. The top 125 players all cashed for at least $1,925 in prize money. All of those 125 players returned for the second day of the tournament, and the field played down from there to the final 10 over a long day of play that lasted close to 14 hours.
Hollederer held the chip lead at the start of the final day with 6,375,000, and he increased that lead to 7.4 million by the time the final table began. Floris Ten Cate then started trading the chip lead with Hollederer during the first 100 hands of play. Cate took out Stephan Van Den Berg in sixth place to take his stack into eight-figure territory, but Hollederer kept pace when he eliminated Carlos Da Costa Dias in fifth place.
The marathon final table did not see the heads-up final set until the 191st hand of play, and ironically it was Cate who exited in third place after a reversal of fortune ended his tournament. Eli Fisz took him out to build his stack to 9,925,000, but he was far behind the 20,025,000 held by Hollederer.
Fisz pulled ahead momentarily during the final match, but Hollederer quickly took control back before the final hand transpired on the 222nd hand at the final table. The chips went all in with the board reading Q864, Fisz was all in with A8 for the lead on the turn, and Hollederer had him covered holding 94. The river delivered the 3 to give Hollederer his flush and the tournament win. Fisz was awarded $116,611 as the runner-up, and the Dutchman’s career earnings are now above $400,000.
A few other notables that finished in the money in the event included Fatih Aydin (15th), Sebastiaan De Jonge (22nd), James Thody (31st), Albert Hoekendijk (52nd), Noah Boeken (67th), Tobias Peters (89th), Vincent Gabel (94th), and WPT Champions Club member Frank Stepuchin (115th).
