PokerGO joining a massive network, a poker room opening in Virginia, and a new book on Game Theory Optimal are some of the short stacks CardsChat picked up in the latest orbit of poker news
PokerGO is joining YouTube TV, which has five million subscribers.
PokerGO announced it is now part of YouTube TV, the Google-owned premium streaming network that costs $64.99 a month ($54.99 for the first three months). PokerGO will join a lineup that includes some of the most-watched cable networks in the country, including the Food Network, ESPN, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, and about 100 others.
PokerGO produces many poker shows, including “High Stakes Poker,” “No Gamble No Future,” “Poker After Dark,” and streams dozens of live events throughout the year.
As the official broadcaster of the World Series of Poker, it streams the final tables of select events, as well as the entire WSOP Main Event. A PokerGO subscription is $99 a year.
“The expanded deal means that poker’s best players, biggest events, and greatest moments will be showcased to more fans than ever before, and YouTube members who subscribe to the PokerGO channel will enjoy a top-tier viewing experience and unrivaled access to the game of poker,” wrote Mori Eskandani, PokerGO’s president.
And he isn’t just blowing smoke.
YouTube TV has replaced cable for five million people in the United States. That makes it the fifth-biggest pay-TV service in the country, according to Variety. It gives subscribers the ability to stream local channels, as well as live events, and also includes an on-demand service.
Major Leaguer hosting charity tourney in San Diego
David Fletcher, who plays the hot corner for the Los Angeles Angels, will host a charity poker tournament to benefit Summer Harvest Food 4 Kids, a non-profit that helps kids eat healthily. It’s the second year for the tourney, and the second time Fletcher is the host.
“I am thrilled to once again host the Summer Harvest Poker Tournament,” Fletcher told the OC-Breeze. “Having grown up in this community, I know first-hand how important it is to give back to children and families in need, especially during these hard times. I am proud to contribute to such a worthy charity and hope you will join us for a great event”
The January 20, event takes place at Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach. Prizes include designer jackets and an on-field experience with Fletcher. Tickets to play start at $200.

Rivers Casino Portsmouth opening with poker room
A 24-table room will be part of the grand opening of Rivers Casino Portsmouth on January 15. Construction of the $340 million casino and entertainment complex began in January 2021. It will beat the former projected opening date by six months.
The casino will also have 1,448 slot machines and 57 table games, as well as 10 restaurants and a 25,000-square-foot convention center.
Portsmouth is located just southwest of Norfolk. It will be the first casino to open as part of Virginia’s new wave of casino expansion. Three more — in Bristol, Danville, and Norfolk — are expected to open their permanent locations in 2024 and will also begin operating in temporary locations throughout 2023.
Owned by Rush Street Gaming, Rivers Casino Portsmouth will be the sixth casino for the company, joining properties in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Des Plains, Ill., and Schenectady, NY. They all have poker rooms.
Irishman brings game theory to masses
Dara O’Kearney, the long-time Irish poker player, poker host, and author has a new book, “GTO Poker Simplified: Strategy lessons from the solvers that any cash game or tournament player can apply to their game.”
Co-written by Barry Carter, the authors promise that the book “dispels the myth that you need to be a genius to understand game theory in poker. It provides easily digestible and actionable changes you can make right now that will quickly bring your game up to speed in the modern era. This book takes the mystery out of GTO for good.”
Let’s hope the lessons contained inside are more concise than the full title.
But then again, O’Kearny is used to going the long way. In addition to being a professional poker player and author, he’s also won multiple ultra-marathons and other races that last 24 hours.
