Benitez back to odds-on to go following Norwich defeat
Managerial sackings are rare during transfer windows as club owners up and down the country put their cash in the trust of their current managers, but when a high profile team is getting bad result after bad result then someone being shown the door is most definitely not out of the question.
That seems to be the case at Everton, who suffered yet another league defeat when going down 2-1 to rock-bottom Norwich on Saturday afternoon.
The result is a new low for Toffees boss Rafa Benitez who rushed straight down the tunnel to a chorus of boos from the away fans at the final whistle, with some supporters holding a large banner that read, “BENTIEZ GET OUT OF OUR CLUB“.
The Spanisard is 4/11 favourite in the next manager to leave market, ahead of Watford boss Claudio Ranieri (10/3) who oversaw a very respectable 1-1 draw at fellow relegation candidates Newcastle.
Everton currently sit 15th in the table, six points about the drop zone, having won just one of their last 13 Premier League games. The Toffees can be backed at 7.87/1 in the Relegation market on the Betfair Exchange.

Ranieri backed after Foxes tear apart Hornets
The Watford owners have made such a habit of sacking managers in recent deasons that it’s tempting to wonder what’s keeping them from sacking Claudio Ranieri.
The Italian is 17/10 in the next manager to leave market following the Hornets’ 4-1 defeat to Leciester in the FA Cup on Saturday.
Rafael Benitez, whose Everton side won 3-2 at Hull, is the same price as Ranieri, as bettors remain sceptical that the Spaniard can turn things around on the blue half of Merseyside.
Ranieri wasn’t appointed at Vicarage Road to oversee a Cup run but Saturday’s defeat was Watford’s 10th in his 12 matches in charge, a dismal record that surely means he is hanging by a thread.
Last week, they brought in Hassane Kamara, Samir and Edo Kayembe and Ranieri is hoping all three can have an immediate impact in making Watford stronger in defence.
They are 17th in the Premier League, two points above the dropzone, but at 1.528/15 they are a shorter price for relegation than Burnley 1.664/6 and Newcastle 2.47/5 who both sit below them.
Watford travel to Newcastle for a relegation six-pointer on Saturday – a match that could prove decisive for Ranieri’s future at the club.

Pochettino backed as United struggle under Rangnick
Will Manchester United ever see the real Ralf Rangnick? The highly-respected German was expected to make an immediate impact in his time as interim boss at Old Trafford but, after last night’s defeat at home to Wolves, fans must be wondering what on earth is going on.
He is still the favourite to be United’s manager at the start of next season but the price has drifted to 7/5 while Mauricio Pochettino has shortened to 21/10.
As the team struggled with Rangnick’s 4-2-2-2 system against Wolves, before changing formation for the second-half, United’s play was less a case of Rangnick’s lauded gegenpress and simply a terrible mess.
The club’s problems run deep and there are no short term solutions, but against Wolves the Red Devils looked as bad as they have all season. Under Rangnick they have won three, drawn one and lost one in the Premier League, with all five opponents in the bottom half of the table.
United are out to 3.02/1 to finish in top four this season. They are seventh in the table, two points adrift of sixth-placed Tottenham who have a game in hand.
Rangnick’s next assignment is an FA Cup tie at home to Aston Villa on Monday.
Pochettino, meanwhile, last night oversaw a 4-0 win for his PSG team in the French cup. They are 13 points clear at the top of Ligue 1 and into the last 16 of the Champions League. And yet there is a growing sense that the Argentine will not stay at PSG beyond season.
United will be monitoring the situation, especially if they continue to struggle under Rangnick’s management.

Benitez 6/4 to be next manager out
New Year same old story for Rafael Benitez’s Everton after their defeat to Brighton – which was tipped by our match previewer – piled pressure on the Spaniard.
By half-time, they were 2-0 down at Goodison Park.
A second-half fightback, which saw the Toffees score two goals and eventually lose 3-2, gave the manager some encouragement, but did nothing to change the fact Everton have one win in 12 games.
Benitez is 6/4 to become the seventh Premier League manager to lose his job this season.
There are signs, however, that he will be give time to turn the situation around.
Everton have been quick off the mark in the January transfer window, signing Ukraine left-back Vitaliy Mykolenko for nearly £18m.
It could be that Claudio Ranieri, whose Watford side have lost six in a row, is a better bet at 2/1 as the Hornets board rarely give manager time to reverse the team’s fortunes once things start to go awry.

Ranieri exit odds shorten after Watford defeat to West Ham
Claudio Ranieri is 10/3 to become the seventh Premier League manager – and the second Watford boss – to lose his job this season after his Hornets side suffered a heavy defeat to West Ham on Tuesday.
Emmanuel Bonaventure put Watford 1-0 up in four minutes at Vicarage Road but that was as good as it got for the hosts. The Hammers were 2-1 up by half-time and added a couple more after the break, winning 4-1.
It was Watford’s first game since 10 December due to covid, but the break appeared to have done them no good at all as they registered their fifth consecutive defeat.
The club’s Italian owners are notoriously ruthless when it comes to sacking managers and it would be no surprise if Ranieri were to be dismissed less than three months after he took over.
Watford are 17th in the Premier League, two points above the drop zone, but they have played two more games than Burnley in 18th. Ranieri’s men are 1.758/11 to be relegated.
Last time Watford were in the Premier League, in 2019/20, the owners sacked three managers during the season.

Bielsa shortens again after another heavy defeat
Marcelo Bielsa has been trimmed to 7/2 in the Next PL Manager to Leave Their Club market after Leeds United suffered another heavy defeat, this time a home 1-4 loss to Arsenal.

Earlier in the week Bielsa was cut to 9/2 (from 16/1) to be the next manager to be sacked after Leeds were humiliated 7-0 at the Etihad Stadium.
Bielsa’s posistion is not being helped by a lengthy injury list that includes pivotal players such as Kalvin Phillips, Patrick Bamford, Liam Cooper, Diego Llorente, Rodrygo and Daniel James. Against Arsenal, Jack Harrison had to be substituted during the first half with a hip injury.
Next up for Leeds is a trip to title chasers Liverpool on Boxing Day where a third consecutive heavy defeat looks very likely.

Bielsa second favourite to go next
The odds shortened on Marcelo Bielsa becoming the next Premier League manager to leave his job after Leeds United were thumped 7-0 by Manchester City on Tuesday night.
The Argentine is 9/2 in the Sportsbook market.
The champions were in ruthless mood at the Etihad as they exposed the Yorkshire side’s defensive flaws and left them five points above the relegation zone, having played two games more than 18th-placed Burnley.
Leeds are 5.04/1 for relegation and have won just once in their last seven matches.
Bielsa has credit in the bank at Leeds after ending their long exile from the top flight, getting them promoted in 2020 and keeping them up last season.
But they have won just three of their 17 matches in the league this season.
Bielsa is a complelling and unpredictable figure and has made abrupt exits from clubs in the past.
Leeds’ next match is at home to Arsenal on Saturday.

Benitez heavy odds-on for exit
Rafael Benitez is 1/7 to be the next Premier League manager to leave his job after Everton were beaten 3-1 by Crystal Palace.
The Spaniard earned himself breathing space with last Monday’s win against Arsenal but the pressure is back on after the Toffees’ latest defeat.
They were lacklustre for at least an hour, during which time Palace went 2-0 up, before a late fightback saw the Blues push for an equaliser. Palace put the result beyond doubt with their third goal in injury time.
Benitez has been given more control at Goodison Park following the departure of director of football Marcel Brands, but the team cannot go on performing as poorly as they did on Sunday.
They are 14th in the Premier League, with one win in 10 matches and next they play Chelsea on Thursday at Stamford Bridge.
On the Exchange Everton are 2.9215/8 to finish in the top 10.
Claudio Ranieri is Benitez’s nearest rivals in the next manager to leave market at 11/2.

Rangnick backed to stay after United win
Ralf Rangnick was backed to continue as Manchester United manager beyond this season after the team won his first match in charge.
The Red Devils beat Crystal Palace 1-0 yesterday and, although they wasted chances and tailed off in the second-half, there was a new intensity about United.
Now Rangnick, who has a six month contract, is 7/4 to still be in charge at the beginning of next season, although Mauricio Pochettino is still the favourite at 6/4.
They are 1.910/11 to finish the season in the Premier League top four.

Benitez heavy odds-on for sack after derby disaster
Rafael Benitez is 1/7 to be the next Premier League manager to be sacked after his Everton side lost 4-1 at home to Liverpool.
Fans have been vocal in their criticism of the Everton board, and told them not to use Benitez as a shield from their own failings, but the Goodison faithful also chanted for the Spaniard to be sacked on Wednesday night.
At the current odds he is the firm favourite to become the seventh top flight boss to lose his job this season. Everton are 14th in the Premier League and host Arsenal in their next match on Monday.
There is no such front runner in the market on who will replace him. Denmark manager Kasper Hjulmand 3/1 is the favourite but he was strongly linked with the Aston Villa job before drifting out of contention.
Nuno Espirito Santo 9/2, Frank Lampard 6/1 and Duncan Ferguson 6/1 are also in the mix.

Newcastle relegation odds shorten as Howe targets signings
Eddie Howe wants to sign players in January but, after they failed to beat Norwich at St James’ Park last night, Newcastle’s relegation odds shortened and transfer targets will have to weigh up the possibility of Championship football.
Howe’s men are bottom of the Premier League, winless after 14 matches and 1.674/6 for relegation.
Last night looked like a perfect opportunity to get their first victory, when they hosted the team directly above them in the table, but Newcastle were reduced to 10 men after nine minutes and, despite taking the lead, drew 1-1.
January looks set to be key for Newcastle as they sit winless at the bottom of the table.

James Tarkowski, the Burnley defender, is 6/5 to sign for Newcastle while Aaron Ramsey, who would give them some much needed creativity in attack, is 11/4.
Nathan Ake 7/2 , who played for Howe at Bournemouth, is another potential target, while an attempt to prise Wilfried Zaha 5/1 from Crystal Palace is not out of the question, according to the odds.
Jesse Lingard, Ousmane Dembele and Philippe Coutinho are all 6/1. Money talks but so does the Premier League table and it’s questionable whether that trio would sign up for a relegation fight, regardless of how much Newcastle’s wealthy owners are prepared to pay them.

The market on the next manager of Everton opened as underfire boss Rafael Benitez prepares his players for a do or die derby against Liverpool tomorrow night.
Benitez is 4/6 to be the next manager to leave after a run of poor results left Everton 14th in the Premier League.
In the next Everton manager market Kasper Hjulmand, who currently manages Denmark, is the favourite at 3/1.

Roy Keane certainly didn’t think Michael Carrick made the right decision in resting Cristiano Ronaldo against Chelsea; but will Ralf Rangnick restore the Portuguese to the starting line-up for Arsenal? In our latest Yes/No topical market, you can bet on whether the new United boss will do that.

“Against Chelsea, they didn’t lose the game, they performed well in parts of the match and, because of that, you can say leaving Ronaldo out of the starting 11 was a justified decision from Michael Carrick.
“Carrick said that he had a conversation with Ronaldo explaining the situation and he reacted in a positive way. Obviously, this is a player with a legendary status in world football, so, he demands eye-to-eye conversations and I’m pretty sure that was the case here. Ronaldo took it and in my opinion handled it really well. When he came on in the game, he tried to do everything he could for the team.
“I think against Arsenal he is going to play because I don’t see him resting two games in a row, two important games at that as well. Overall, I was surprised that he didn’t start against Chelsea but I am expecting him to start against Arsenal.”

Pochettino continues to be linked with the club amid rumours that he is unsettled at Paris Saint-Germain and would like to join United. It is thought he would have no problem with working alongside Rangnick if, as expected, the German stays on in a directorial role beyond this season.
The Ajax manager Erik ten Haag comes next in the betting at 9/2 even though he has distanced himself form the Unied job.

Benitez was available to back at 5/1 prior to the match, but the defeat has seen his odds shorten dramatically and he’s now the clear favourite ahead of Ralph Hasenhuttle at 13/5 and Brendan Rodgers at 5/1.
After a promising start to the season the Toffees are now without a win in their last seven Premier League games and they’ve collected just two points from the last 21 available, leaving them 14th in the table, six points above the drop zone.

Betting suspended on next Man Utd manager with Rangnick set to be confirmed
Betting has been suspended in the Betfair Sportsbook market on the next Manchester United manager with the appointment of Ralf Rangnick looking inevitable.
About 24 hours ago Rangnick became the heavy odds-on favourite to succeed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following reports that the German had agreed terms with the club. Confirmation of the deal depended on Rangnick’s current employer, Lokomotiv Moscow, giving it their blessing.
Since then the football community has been reactiong (Jurgen Klopp called it “bad news for the other teams”) and Betting.Betfair contributors have shared their views.
Betfair ambassador Dimitar Berbatov, who played against Rangnick’s teams in the Bundesliga, struck a cautious note, pointing out that the 63-year-old has never managed a club as big as United.
German football expert Kevin Hatchard was unequivocal in his preview of United’s trip to Chelsea this weekend, writing:
“If they’ll let him, the German could revolutionise a club that has suffered from a serious case of inertia.”
If confirmed in the job, Rangnick will take charge of the team from next week, initially on a six month contract.

Ralf Rangnick is heavy odds-on in the next Manchester United manager betting after reportedly agreeing a six month deal that would see him in charge of the Red Devils for the remainder of the season.
The deal is subject to the approval of Lokomotiv Moscow where Rangnick is currently working as Head of Sports and Development.

Work permit issues mean Rangnick will not be in the dugout for United’s trip to Chelsea on Sunday so Michael Carrick is likely to be in charge again.
Rangnick was most recently manager of RB Leipzig which he left in 2019.
The plan is for Rangnick to manage the team for the rest of the 2021/22 campaign while United try to find a long-term successor to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who was sacked last weekend following a fourth Premier League defeat in five matches.

Does Mauricio Pochettino have the cojones to ask Paris Saint-Germain to terminate his contract as manager? That’s probably what he’ll need to do if he wants to join Manchester United sooner rather than later.
United have reportedly had an initial approach rebuffed by the French club but they will try again. Pochettino has drifted to 3/1 to be next United manager while Ernesto Valverde, who has been sounded out about taking the role until the end of the season, is 7/2.
Pochettino is 5.69/2 to be United manager by Christmas and 1.162/13 not to be – so bettors think the Red Devils will have to wait to get their man.
Ralf Rangnick’s name has also been bandied about again in the past 24 hours, with reports suggesting the German is also in the frame for the job as interim manager. He is 11/2.

Manchester United fans are down in the dumps but, if they can bring in Mauricio Pochettino before Christmas, they will be smiling.
The club appear to have identified the Argentine as their first choice to succeed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on a permanent basis – he is the 6/4 favourite – but can United get Poch by Christmas? Betfair have opened a market on it.
The early odds indicated that bettors think the Red Devils have a job on their hands to prise Pochettino out of PSG in the immediate future. But it looks like he is keen on the United role, his family are still based in England and, in Zinedine Zidane, the French club may have a replacement lined up.

Odds slashed on Valverde for United job amid reports
Ernest Valverde has been backed in the next Man Utd manager market amid reports the club have approached him about taking the job on an interim basis for the rest of the season.
But Mauricio Pochettino 6/4 is still the favourite and Valverde is 9/2.

Yesterday, Pochettino failed to say he would fulfil his contract at Paris Saint-Germain, which runs until 2023, when he held a press conference ahead of the French club’s clash with Manchester City in the Champions League tonight.
However, it could be difficult for United to appoint him before the end of the season, so they are still working on plans to find an interim manager.
Valverde, who has been out of work since leaving Barcelona in 2020 after a two-and-a-half year reign which saw the team win La Liga twice and a Copa del Rey, could fit the bill.
He has experience of managing one of the world’s biggest club and handling decorated players with large egos.

PSG are understood to be demanding £10m compensation for the Argentinian so it won’t be a straightforward deal but bettors are increasingly confident United can get it across the line.

Pochettino favoured ahead of Rodgers, Zidane, Ten Hag
Mauricio Pochettino is the favourite to become Manchester United’s next permanent manager, amid reports that he would be open to leaving PSG if the Premier League club make an approach.
The former-Tottenham manager joined PSG, where he was previously a player, less than a year ago but is said to have problems with the structure of the club where he works under ex-Brazil player Leonardo.
Pochettino is 21/10 ahead of Brendan Rodgers 7/2, Michael Carrick 4/1, Erik ten Hag 7/1 and Zinedine Zidane 17/2.
Carrick is in temporary charge as United travel to Villarreal for an important Champions League match on Tuesday.
The odds quoted above are for the market on the next permanent United manager. The club said on Sunday they would look to appoint an interim manager until the end of the season.

Mauricio Pochettino is Manchester United’s number one choice to become the club’s next manager, but not until the summer report Sky Sports News.

As mentioned in the previous update, any manager who takes charge of Manchester United for at least 10 games, whether classed as an interim/caretaker manager or not, will be settled as the winner in the Next Permanent Man Utd Manager market.
This rule puts Michael Carrick in the driving seat for now as he is likely to be in charge for at least the next few games, and as a result he has been backed into 7/2 in the above named market.
Zinedine Zidane is a quick drifter, out to 21/10 from an earlier 10/11, while Brendan Rodgers is next in at 13/5.

Solskjaer leaves the club following Saturday’s humiliating 4-1 defeat to newly-promoted Watford, a result that leaves United outside of the top six in the Premier League and fully 12 points behind current leaders Chelsea.
Michael Carrick will take temporary charge of team affairs until an interim or permanent manager is appointed.

Zidane interested in United job as Solskjaer prepares for Watford
Zinedine Zidane is 5/2 to become the next Manchester United manager amid reports the Frenchman is coming around to the idea of taking over at Old Trafford.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remains under pressure at United and, defeat for the Red Devils at Watford on Saturday, could force the board to sack him. United are 1.548/15 in the early betting on the Vicarage Road clash but fans of Solskjaer’s inconsistent side will take nothing for granted.
He is 2.166/5 on the Exchange to be gone by Boxing Day. The board would like to give him time to turn things around but, if results continue to go against United and it looks like they will fail to finish in the top four, a decision will probably need to be made. For that reason, the Norwegian is 4/9 in the next manager to leave betting.
Brendan Rodgers 4/6 is still the favourite to be next United manager but, unlike the Leicester boss, PSG’s Mauricio Pochettino 11/2 and Ajax’s Erik ten Hag 9/1, Zidane is out of work since leaving Madrid last summer.
In his two stints at the Bernabeu he won two La Liga titles, three Champions Leagues and two Club World Cup crowns.
It has been reported that he would like to return to management in France but, with former charges Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane at United, as well as countrymen Paul Pogba, Zidane could be attracted to Old Trafford.

Early odds on Villa, Newcastle and Norwich this weekend
Now that the international break is almost over, and many players have returned to their clubs, thoughts turn to the Premier League and, in particular, three teams starting life under new management this weekend.
Fortunately, for Steve Gerrard, Eddie Howe and Dean Smith all three are at home, which should help. All three kick-off at 3pm on Saturday.
Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa host Brighton and, while the seventh-placed Seagulls have been one of the success stories of the season, the Villains are 2.6213/8 favourites.
It’s an intriguing match-up, with two of the most promising young English managers meeting for the first time. Villa have lost their last five, mind you, and Brighton may be value at 3.02/1 with the draw 3.412/5.
Eddie Howe has had the longest of the new trio to acclimatise to his surroundings. He may be under the most pressure, however, with a packed St James’ Park and the club’s new owners looking on and the team in a relegation fight.
The Magpies are 2.767/4 to beat Brentford 2.789/5 and the draw is 3.55/2.
Dean Smith only got the Norwich job on Monday, the team sit bottom of the table and are 1.824/5 to end the season there.
Last time out, the Canaries picked up their first win, away at Brentford, and they are 3.7511/4 to make it two in a row against Southampton 2.166/5. The draw is 3.65.
It’s been a whirlwind few days for Smith who began the international break being sacked by Villa only to be appointed at Carrow Road a week later.

Bettors think Smith faces huge task to save Canaries
Norwich City are 1.834/5 to finish bottom of the Premier League this season after they confirmed Dean Smith as their new manager.
The 50-year-old said he was pleased to be back in Premier League management only a week after he was sacked by Aston Villa following five consecutive defeats.
The Canaries sit 20th in the Premier League, five points from safety, with just one win in their 11 matches. They are 1.21/5 for relegation but, in Smith, they have appointed a man who kept Villa up for two seasons after getting them promoted from the Championship.
With more than two-thirds of the season remaining he has time to save Norwich, although they need to build on the momentum from their win at Brentford last time out.

It’s certainly been a week of manager merry-go-rounds with Premier League clubs sacking managers and hiring new ones, and the latest club set to fill a manager vacancy is Norwich, who are very close to naming Dean Smith – who was sacked from Aston Villa six days ago – as their new boss.
Smith was available to back at just 1/33 in the Next Permanent Norwich Manager market earlier today but the Sportsbook have now suspended the betting with an announcement from Carrow Road expected very soon.

Steve Gerrard has left Rangers after three-and-a-half years to become the new manager of Aston Villa.
The club decided he was the outstanding candidate to succeed Dean Smith who was sacked after five consecutive defeats with Villa just two points above the relegation zone. They are 6.611/2 to go down.
Gerrard’s first match in charge will be at home to Brighton on Saturday 20 November.
His departure leaves a vacancy at Rangers where he will be a hard act to follow, having guided the club to their first Scottish Premiership title for 10 years and a good run in the Europa League.

The market makes the Rangers boss, who steered the Gers to their first Scottish Premiership title for a decade last season, the overwhelming favourite ahead of John Terry and Frank Lampard, available to back at 9/1 and 10/1 respectively, though the ex Liverpool man can still be backed at 1.384/11 on the Exchange.
Liverpool legend Gerrard is well known to Villa chief executive and ex-Reds managing director Christian Purslow and Villa’s hierarchy are impressed by Gerrard’s work in revitalising Rangers in his first managerial job.

Newcastle are 10/11 on Betfair to be relegated after Eddie Howe was appointed as the club’s new manager.
The Magpies currently sit second bottom of the Premier League, with no win in their 11 games so far this season, and the new boss faces an enormous fight to save them. His first match in charge will be at home to Bournemouth on 20 November.

The Lampard and Gerrard debate is back, except this time it’s about whether they should get managerial roles in the Premier League.
Lampard, who was sacked by Chelsea in January, is 4/5 to be the next Norwich manager after holding talks with the club.

According to reports, Rodgers has agreed to take over from Solskjaer, although some say that will be during the current international while others say it will be next summer.
United would have to pay a heavy price to prise him from Leicester.

Back then though that trio of star names would often hit the headlines for what they did on the pitch, today they are being talked about because of what they are doing – or potentially might do – at the side of it.
As mentioned below Lampard is the 8/11 favourite in the Next Permanent Norwich Manager market following Daniel Farke‘s sacking on Saturday and Terry is the Evens favourite in the Next Permanent Aston Villa Manager market after Dean Smith received his marching orders on Sunday afternoon.

Aston Villa have sacked manager Dean Smith.
In a club statement Aston Villa confirmed that the club has parted company with Smith.
CEO Christian Purslow said: “When Dean joined us in October 2018 our team was really struggling in The Championship. He immediately transformed the atmosphere and performances and achieved the ultimate success of leading Villa back to the Premier League within the same season – a rare feat.
“He then secured our place in the Premier League after a tough campaign and took us to a Cup Final at Wembley.
“However, after a good start to last season, this year we have not seen the continuous improvement in results, performances and league position which we have all been looking for. For this reason we have decided to make a change now to allow time for a new head coach to make an impact.”

Lampard odds-on to replace Farke
We expected a lot of twists and turns in the sack race betting on Saturday, but what we didn’t expect was Daniel Farke being sacked after guiding Norwich to their first Premier League win of the season.
But by all accounts the decision to relieve Farke of his duties was made earlier in the week but it was agreed that he would still take charge of the team for the Brentford game, which the Canaries won 2-1 away from home.
The Betfair Sportsbook have opened a Next Permanent Norwich Manager market and it’s former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard who is the odds-on favourite at 10/11 ahead of perhaps a few unfamiliar names in Swansea boss Russell Martin, 7/1, and Bodø/Glimt manager Kjetil Knutsen at 15/2.

An interesting contender could be former Norwich striker Mark Robins at 9/1 who is currently receiving plaudits for the excellent job he is doing at Championship outfit Coventry City.
But it’s another former Norwich player, Steve Bruce, who is the early market mover.
The much-travelled manager spent three years at Carrow Road as a player before enjoying huge success with Manchester United, and although he hinted at retirement following his sacking at Newcastle recently the punters haven’t been put off, backing the 60-year-old into 10/1 overnight from an opening 33/1.
Smith and Solskjaer dominate new sack race market
With Farke gone we move onto a Fifth Premier League Manager to Leave Their Club market and it’s no surprise to see Dean Smith and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer dominating the betting at Evens and 11/10 respectively.
Smith’s Aston Villa lost their fifth consecutive league game on Friday night when losing 1-0 to Southampton, while Solskjaer’s United team produced another poor performance in losing the Manchester derby yesterday.
With the next international break looming – traditionally a time when managers get sacked because of the time it allows for clubs to find a replacement – it wouldn’t be a surprise to see either or both managers lose their jobs.

Perhaps one saving grace for Solskjaer is that unlike against Liverpool a few weeks back, United weren’t embarrassed by a heavy defeat with Pep Guardiola’s men clearly taking their foot off the gas in the second half.
With the international break up next, the Manchester United hierarchy have two weeks to think seriously about Solskjaer’s position.

Smith now odds-on to be next manager to leave following Saints defeat
Aston Villa boss Dean Smith is the 8/15 favourite in the Fourth PL Manager to Leave Their Club market following his team’s fifth straight league defeat on Friday night, losing 1-0 at Southampton.
Villa couldn’t have wished for a worse start, going behind in just the third minute when Adam Armstrong smashed home a superb shot from just outside the box. And it was Villa’s first half performance that will have worried their fans more than anything – some ill discipline and poor play could easily have resulted in Villa going into the interval with just 10 men and two or three goals down.
But to their credit Villa fought well in the second half and although they couldn’t find an equaliser there was enough there to suggest they have enough quality to turn this poor form around.
But will Smith be the man to oversee it?
Immediately after the game he was cut to 5/6 to be the next manager to get the boot, but after some overnight bets the Villa boss was cut once again and can currently be backed at 8/15 on the Sportsbook.

Howe odds-on to be next Newcastle manager
Eddie Howe has been backed into odds-on favourite to become the next Newcastle manager after Unai Emery ruled himself out of contention for the job.
The former-Bournemouth manager is 8/13. Paulo Fonseca is next in the betting at 4/1. He has already held talks with the north east club but there has been no contact between the two parties this week.
After that in the market, it’s Roberto Martinez 10/1, Rafael Benitez 12/1 and Lucien Favre 14/1, although of whom are currently employed.
Andriy Shevchenko is an interesting one with the Ukraine boss shortening to 25/1 from 80/1 overnight.
Newcastle, without a win in their 10 Premier League games and 2.285/4 for relegation, had hoped to appoint a manager before Saturday’s trip to Brighton. With the club mulling whether to offer Howe the position, it looks likely that interim boss Graeme Jones will still be in charge for the match.
After that, the international break should give the board time to make an appointment who can bed in before the Magpies next fixture on at home to Brentford on 20 November.
Defeat to Saints could seal Smith’s fate
Dean Smith, meanwhile, is the 7/4 favourite in the next manager to leave betting.

According to reports, the club had wanted to have Emery in place as early as this weekend. However, his representatives held talks with Newcastle but came away uncertain about the club’s strategy. Villarreal’s owners and players reportedly urged Emery to stay with them.

Tottenham are 2/1 to win a trophy this season after they confirmed the appointment of Antonio Conte as their new manager.
The Italian has signed a deal until summer 2023 with the option to extend and, thanks to his excellent track record in the Premier League and Serie A, his arrival should boost Spurs’ chances of success.
Betfair have launched a range of Conte Spurs specials markets, with the Lilywhites even odds to finish above Arsenal in 2021/22 and Harry Kane 6/5 to stay at the club beyond this season.
On the Exchange, they are 2.526/4 to finish in the Premier League top six and 7.613/2 to make a surprise bid for the top four. The club are currently eighth and have lost their last three league matches, although they are in the quarter-finals of the League Cup.
Conte replaces Nuno Espírito Santo, who was sacked on Monday, and Conte’s first match in charge will be Thursday’s Europa Conference League home tie with Vitesse Arnhem, before Spurs travel to Everton in the Premier League on Sunday.
After a whirlwind five days in charge, Conte will then have the international break to settle in at Spurs. He is usually averse to taking a job during the season but has made an exception for Spurs. Betting has been suspended on the Sportsbook’s next Tottenham manager market amid reports that Antonio Conte is set to be unveiled by the club.
The former-Chelsea manager will sign a deal to take charge until the summer of 2023. He was Spurs’ top target and yesterday received the backing of Betfair Ambassador Dimitar Berbatov who said he thought the Italian could get the best out of Harry Kane.
It’s also been a lively few hours in the betting on the next Newcastle manager.
Former-Arsenal boss Unai Emery is odds-on on the Exchange to be the new Magpies boss in what would be a surprise return to the Premier League.
Emery endured a miserable spell as manager of Arsenal but has since rebuilt his reputation, winning the Europa Cup with Villarreal last season.
As reported yesterday, there are rumours that the north east club could unveil Emery as their manager as soon as next week’s international break.
Rafael Benitez was an overnight mover in the market, shortening to 6/1 for a return to Newcastle, but the Everton manager has since drifted back out to 25/1 on the Sportsbook and 14.5 on the Exchange.

Nuno out, Conte in and Poch to United?
Tottenham have sacked Nuno Espirito Santo and are reportedly in advanced talks with Antonio Conte about taking up the position.
But the Premier League manager speculation won’t end there.
Several managers look as if they are little more than a bad result away from losing their jobs.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer got a vital win at Spurs on Saturday. It sealed Nuno’s fate but gave the Norwegian a little breathing room at United.
He is 6/1 to be the fourth Premier League manager to lose their job this season, although Dean Smith is the new favourite at 6/4 after Aston Villa’s 4-1 defeat to West Ham yesterday.
With a Champions League trip to Atalanta to come on Tuesday, however, followed by a Manchester derby this Sunday, Solskjaer remains in danger.
Defeat in either of those matches could prove fatal for the United manager and the betting on his replacement is very much a live market.
Today, Mauricio Pochettino was backed into 3/1 to be the next United manager.
Zinedine Zidane is the same price but Pochettino, who is the manager of Paris Saint-Germain, looks like a better fit for United and has a longtime admirer in Sir Alex Ferguson.
Reports that 5/1 Emery is set for Newcastle
Unai Emery is 5/1 to become the next Newcastle manager but reports this morning claimed that he will be unveiled as the new St James’ Park boss in the next few weeks.

Roberto Martinez 3/1 is the favourite while Paulo Fonseca 6/1 is also near the top of the market. Newcastle sacked Steve Bruce and are still looking for a replacement who can begin the job of rebuilding the team.
The Magpies lost to Chelsea on Saturday, remain without a win and are 2.265/4 – a shorter price than they were when their new uber-wealthy owners took over – for relegation.
