Luis Contreras at Woodbine
The field is set for Sunday’s 163rd running of the Queen’s Plate at Woodbine, but there is still plenty of time to make introductions.
On this episode of the Queen’s Plate News Minute, bloodstock editor Joe Nevills chats with two jockeys who will be riding their mounts for the first time in competition during the Queen’s Plate: two-time Plate winner Luis Contreras aboard Shamateur, and Antonio Gallardo aboard Causin’ Mayhem.
Each jockey discusses what they’ve learned about their Queen’s Plate assignments leading up to the race, and the methods they use to assess horses when they don’t have experience with them in the saddle.
The Queen’s Plate will take place Sunday, Aug. 21 at Woodbine, with an estimated post time at 5:47 p.m. Eastern.
