He may not be noted for playing Frank Sinatra songs, but WPT ambassador and world-renowned DJ, Steve Aoki, has been picked to fly to the moon and back!

The two-time Grammy-nominated DJ, producer and artist is one of eight people chosen by billionaire Japanese entrepreneur and astronaut, Yusaku Maezawa, for the eight-day round trip to the moon and back aboard Elon Musk’s biggest Space X rocket.

Aoki, who joined the WPT as a brand ambassador in January of this year, was the first of Maezawa’s octet to be chosen, the moment caught on camera.

“Life is fucking crazy…oh my God…I ‘m going to go to the fucking moon?!” exclaimed Aoki.

Aoki revealed why applied for a spot on the #dearMoon voyage, scheduled to take off next year.

“As a young boy, I always wanted to go to space. It’s been a dream of mine for decades … There is a fear there. But, I can’t miss this opportunity. For me, my soul is begging for this, it needs this. So, I will take on the risk and I’m already committed. For this lunar orbital trip I have a few goals and activities that I would love to do. One would be to actually DJ in space around the moon, but I also want to make a song.”

For those wondering about Aoki’s poker credentials, the Florida-born 44-year-old has been playing the game for half of his life, and runs home games from his Las Vegas mansion.

Earlier this month he was mixing with the likes of Phil Ivey, Phil Hellmuth, Patrik Antonius and Doyle Brunson at the Premier Meet-Up Game: WPT Poker Icons Experience to launch the WPT’s World Championship Series.

Whether or not there will be any poker played on the 8-day space trip remains to be seen.

Aoki will be joined by Korean K-Pop sensation TOP, Czech choreographer Yemi, Irish photographic artist Rhiannon Adam, US YouTuber Tim Dodd, British photographer Karim Ilya, US filmmaker Brendan Hall, and Indian actor Dev D. Joshi, as well as crew leader Yusaku Maezawa himself, the billionaire retail mogul known as “MZ”.

Plenty enough for a decent game of poker, then, and we’ll report back if a game breaks out on the 8-handed moon voyage aboard the Space X rocket!
