Chris Brewer came out on top in the latest super high roller event at the European Poker Tour Paris tournament series on Feb. 21 at the Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile in France.
The high-stakes crusher topped a tough field to claim $1,026,686 for the largest score of his career. This was the second victory for Brewer of the series after winning the $25,000 no-limit hold’em event for $382,183 just a few days ago. His tournament earnings have now climbed up to $8,085,943 as a result.
“It feels great, it was a pretty tough field. I mean, I ran amazing, and it was really fun to get to win twice this week,” said Brewer to the PokerNews reporters. “This one feels better. I mean, the other one was a single-day $25K. This is a big one. It’s also the biggest cash I’ve ever had by a pretty big margin.”
The $50,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em tournament had a prize pool worth $3,422,630 thanks to a total of 68 entries. The top nine players all cashed for at least $99,296 in prize money. There were 33 that returned for the second day of the tournament, and the field played down to the final 11 for the last day of play.
Sam Greenwood and Timothy Adams were the unfortunate pair of players to fall before the final table and money bubble burst less than an hour after play began. Brewer was in the middle of the pack when the final table began, and everyone was trailing the large advantage held by Jules Dickerson.
Thomas Muehloecker (eighth), Steve O’Dwyer (seventh), Dimitar Danchev (sixth), and Nick Petrangelo (third) were some notables names that fell along the way to the final match in the tournament between Brewer and Dickerson.
Dickerson held a nearly 3:2 advantage at the start of heads-up play, but the tournament came to a close in a quick sequence of two hands.
Dickerson had a slight chip lead when Brewer made quad eights to top his full house in what would be the deciding pot of the tournament. The final hand was just a formality with Dickerson all in for less than a big blind with 9-5 offsuit against the J-8 suited held by Brewer that made a flush to win the tournament.
Dickerson took home $667,486 as the runner-up, and his career earnings are now up to $736,221.
