The recent Oscars ceremony has stirred more controversy in the last few days than any other story in the news. Will Smith slapped Chris Rock after he made a crass joke about Smith’s wife, leading to many calling for him to lose his award for the best actor.

As it turns out, the whole thing might have been staged to grab some headlines, but that didn’t Hollywood star Rami Malek from trying to make a wager on Rock getting an apology.

Malek was chilling out in the Dolby Theater bar after the ceremony had ended and offered a bet for $20 that Smith won’t apologise for the violent act. Patrick Whitesell , executive chairman of Endeavor, an entertainment and media agency, immediately snapped up the offer.

There was an apology during Smith’s acceptance speech but only to the Academy and his fellow nominees.

But then a couple of days later, Smith took to Instagram to make a full public apology to Chris Rock in front of his 62.3 million followers.

“I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.“ We wonder if Patrick Whitesell will bother chasing up Rami Malek for his twenty bucks… Surely this pair could have put up a more substantial wager.
