Top 2022 MLS Week 6 Matches to Bet On the Weekend

The MLS schedule is heavily packed in April with most teams getting four games and some getting as many as six this month. The standings are starting to shake out after the slow start to the season with the contenders separating themselves from the contenders and staking claim to the top spots.

Matchweek six with MLS includes all but four teams in action. Seattle Sounders and NYCFC get the weekend off between their two legs of the CONCACAF Champions League semifinals so their scheduled Saturday opponents are also off.  That means D.C. United and FC Cincinnati also get an extra week between games as they were supposed to face NYCFC and Seattle respectively this week. Let’s have a look at the top games for the weekend so you can get all set to bet against the MLS Odds.

MLS Weekend Games Preview | April 7th Edition

Union Continue Hot Start

After five weeks of action, the Philadelphia Union sit atop the Eastern Conference and most MLS power rankings. Their offseason moves have paid off handsomely as new Designated Players Julian Carranza and Mikeal Uhre have paid immediate dividends. Uhre made his debut last weekend at home as the Union knocked off Charlotte FC and Carranza has two assists plus a goal in four games.

The defense has been fantastic as well with just two goals allowed in five games this season. Goalkeeper Andre Blake has always been an MLS star but now has a tremendous center-back pairing in front of him in Jack Elliott and Jakob Gienses with Kai Wagner at left-back. Academy graduate Nathan Harriel has played well at right-back when given the chance.

This week the Union host Columbus Crew who stumbled last week at home to Nashville, with superstar midfielder Lucas Zelarayan playing, but limited by a leg injury. They partnered Derrick Etienne Jr. with him in the midfield but missed out on their scoring chances against a strong Nashville defense. The loss was the first of the season for the Crew who sit in fifth place in the East with eight points and a conference-high 10 goals scored.

MyBookie has the Union favored at home at -105 while the Crew are +285 to take all three points. A draw is +245 and the total goals is 2.5 with the over at -120 and the under at -105.

Los Angeles Teams Riding High

The two Los Angeles teams are both playing well and this week they go head-to-head in the first El Trafico of the season. LAFC sit atop the Western Conference while the LA Galaxy are playing with confidence after a 3-1 win over Portland Timbers. The two main goal scorers, Carlos Vela for LAFC and Chicharito of the Galaxy are both in peak form heading into this showdown.

LAFC went on the road last week and hammered Orlando City SC 4-2 with four different goal scorers. Their last two road games have been cross-country trips to Florida, both resulting in wins. After a season of injuries, Vela is back to his MVP form with four goals and an assist on the season while captaining the Black and Gold.

The Galaxy went to Portland last week and led 2-0 at the half before the Timbers went down to 10 men. Chicharito’s second goal of the game secured the three points but the Galaxy did lose Marky Delgado to a second yellow two minutes later and he will miss the showdown this weekend.

The two LA teams have met 13 times overall, 11 in MLS regular-season games. The Galaxy have five wins to three for LAFC and the teams have five draws. Vela has the most goals in the history of the rivalry with 10 strikes against the Galaxy. LAFC has never won on the road in the series with four Galaxy wins and two draws at Dignity Health Sports Park, formerly the StubHub Center.

As the home team, the Galaxy are a slight favorite at MyBookie at +155. LAFC are +160 and a draw between the teams is +255. The total goals is 3 with the over at -114 and the under at -109.
